Szent Istvan University (SZIU) was founded in 2000 by the merger of the University of Veterinary Science in Budapest, the Teachers’ Training College of Jászberény, Ybl Miklós Technical College, and the University of Agriculture in Godllo.

It is one of Hungary’s largest and most famous institutions of higher education. In 2009, Tessedik Sámuel College and SZIE merged into each other as well.

The university headquarters are located primarily in Godllo, but there are altogether 7 different faculties for study and research in Budapest, Godllo, Georgikon, Kaposvár, Károly Róbert Campus, Szent István Campus and Szarvas host approximately 16000 students. Schools in Szent Istvan University have more than almost a century of history.

On 1 February 2021, the university structure changed and it got the new name as ‘Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences’ (MATE). It is one of the largest agricultural-focused, multi- disciplinary higher education institutions in Europe.

Eligibility Criteria

Students must fit into the below mentioned eligibility criteria to take admission to Szent Istvan University:

For a bachelor’s degree:

  • Students must also possess an English language proficiency certificate with a B2 level (i.e. TOEFL 61 on iBT; min. 500 on PBT, a 6.0 on IELTS or equivalent).

  • Students or applicants should possess a high school diploma.

  • They must have records of high school transcripts.

  • qualifying an entrance exam (only for some programmes)

For a master’s degree:

  • Students must possess a Bachelor’s diploma (a four-year undergraduate degree is required if a student apply for a one-year Master’s)
