In 2007, Belfast Metropolitan College was established. After the merger of Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education with Castlereagh College in 2007, some part of Belfast Metropolitan College was formed. The history of this college actually began in the twentieth century when in 1906, the Belfast Municipal Technical Institute was established.

This is the largest college of further and higher education in Northern Ireland and one of the biggest providers in the UK. Belfast Metropolitan College also known as Belfast Met has three main campuses:- Millfield Campus, Castlereagh Campus, and Titanic Quarter Campus.Around the city, Belfast Metropolitan College also has several smaller centres such as e3 at Springvale Campus which was opened in 2012.
